Liam's 6 month checkup...

Today we had Liam's 6 month wellness check. Yes, I realize he's almost 7 months... :)

Dr. Rick, as always, was excited to see Liam and brag on him to the assistant. Once they caught up with each other, Dr. Rick went over all his milestones and how amazing it is that for the most part, Liam is hitting them in time with a full-term baby! He's not forming syllables yet for sounds like baba, dada, etc... There is a possibility that he could have speech delays, and that's a combination of preemie + the ventilator being so far in his throat for so long, but that's easy to correct w/speech therapy, and so we'll be watching for that. Not a top concern for us though.

Dr Rick gave us the go ahead for solids too!! I'm stoked about this phase because that gives ME a break, but he said with his tongue thrust issue (also due to ventilator and his tongue resting position as a newborn), that getting him used to a spoon will help his tongue form other shapes necessary for speech development. Tomorrow I'll start him w/some veggies. (I did start cereal a week ago, for some relief due to teething) but I'm excited to see how he does w/something new!

I'm absolutely dumbfounded that he ONLY weighs 13.8lbs. I could have sworn he was closer to the 15-16lb range. But he is still gaining over an ounce a day, which is on the high side for a bf baby at his age. So that's good. He has more than doubled his birth weight, which is usually something most babies hit around 6 months. So considering that, he is doing great weigh wise. He is also 24.5" long with another big noggin' at 16 3/4!!

He did pretty good with his shots today. Mommy couldn't be the hero, and I was FORCED to hold his arms down... :( But he only cried for a little while, and Jax did a good job of trying to comfort him, thus earning his 4 CARS stickers that Dr. Rick gave him. Other than that, his check up report was PERFECT.

He's a lot more fussy tonight, and that is probably a combination of teething and the shots. I hate that he's so miserable. With Jax, we only had a few restless times when he was teething, and with Liam, I've spent lots of nights up with him, rocking, walking, bouncing, feeding, etc... to no avail. Hopefully he'll get his first tooth soon which should give him a few weeks of relief before starting on a second tooth.

He's just about to the crawling stage, but not sure if he'll actually start since he's figured out he can just roll and scoot wherever he wants to go. It'll be fun though if he does, because then I anticipate lots of brother to brother playing!!

That's all for his update. His next appointment is Nov. 1st.

Hope everyone is doing well!
Shylah
